6.30 AM in Aceh on Saturday , December 30th 2006 :

After 5 hours of trying to go deeper into the Tenggulun county, Aceh Tamiang through muddy roads, we found a massive destruction. Thousand cubic of logs from illegal logging smashed thousands of houses and most of it stuck beneath the Bridge 87.
The most devastating fact is that thousand of children only got 2 pieces of raw bananas, one for the morning and one for night. Most of the evacuaees got the only cooked rice that thrown out from the helicopter 3 days ago. All of those rice were mixed with mud. But they ate it anyway, since the didn't have any food left. 1,200 families starving , and some already got very sick.
This afternoon we will be back to the camp, to get the food. --> text message from Bayu Gawtama from ACT team.

Over 400,000 people have been forced to flee their homes due to massive flooding in the Indonesian districts of Aceh and Northern Sumatra, and parts of Malaysia.

On this week, the anniversary of the Indian Ocean Tsunami that ravaged parts of Indonesia two years ago, many Indonesians once again face the destructive force of nature. Many in Aceh who lost their homes from the tsunami are now fleeing the flood waters.
Hundreds of villages have been affected by the disaster. Many villages have ceased to exist almost overnight, submerged completely by the floodwaters. Hundreds of people have lost their lives, and many more are reported missing.

Asia Relief is working on the ground in the district of Aceh Tamiang, where an estimated 150,000 people have been affected by the floods.

Currently there is an immediate need for emergency aid, basic necessities such as food, clean drinking water, and temporary shelter. Medical supplies are also being provided to combat the immediate threat of water borne illnesses.

Your immediate cash donation can help save lives and bring much needed aid.

Please Donate Generously.
